Strings Glorious Strings!
This is one of those really simply facts of harp life - always have a full extra set of strings for your harp and when one breaks, put a new one on from your extra set and order a replacement immediately. Simple. Straightforward. Basic. …And you would be shocked by the number of professionals who don’t do it. Sure, they have part of a set…somewhere…maybe…but you can be certain that the string they just broke is one they can’t seem to find. So please, please, please, listen to us when we say, always have a full extra set of strings for your harp. …thank you!
Quick Tip: we are often asked how often the strings on a harp should be changed. It depends on the type of string. Monifilament nylon harp strings only need to be changed when they break. They are not the same as guitar strings, they don’t go “dead.” Nylon/nylon wrapped strings should be changed when the wrap shows signs of wear. This is most likely seen at the top where the string contacts the hardware of the harp. With the wrapped steel strings it depends. If you play a great deal you may want to change them as much as once or twice a year. If you play only moderately then you can scale back to less then that but these strings are vulnerable to things like salty sea air and high humidity so you should also take into consideration your general environment.

Your Rees Concert Line harp comes with a complete set of strings installed but every harper should have additional strings to use as a replacement should a string break. It is worth noting that strings seem to know when you have an important occasion planned and every so often one string will give its life right before the gig that has been making you nervous for a month. Harp strings are not like guitar or violin strings. Monofilament nylon strings never need to be replaced unless they break. Wrapped strings need to be replaced if the wrap at the top or bottom of the string comes loose or, as routine maintenance, every couple of years depending upon how much you play.
If you are unsure of the model of your harp include the serial number, from the lutherie tag inside the soundbox of your harp, and the total string count in the notes section of the shopping cart for this site.
While monofilament nylon strings never need to be changed unless they break, you will find that wrapped strings can get "dead" over time. How much time depends upon the environment where the harp is usually located and how much you play. It would be the most common for wrapped strings to be changed every other year but that is by no means set in stone.
A Wrapped String Set for your Rees Concert Line Harp contains one of each of the wrapped strings for your specific harp model. If you are unsure of the model include the serial number of your harp, from the lutherie label inside the soundbox, in the notes section of your order along with the total number of strings on your harp.
