Stevie Wonder was drawn into our booth at the NAMM Show by the sound of the talented Camile Fournier playing. He loved the voice and, of course, was immediately able to understand the instrument. A few months later, we shipped his harp out to him!

The Rees Aberdeen Meadows Harp is the flagship of the Rees Concert Lever Harp line. It is made to project a large concert quality voice rich with subtlety and color. The light to medium string tension supports an extremely wide dynamic range allowing  intention and interpretation to come to the fore. Unique to Rees Harps, this 36-string harp comes in two ranges, C to C and A to A. The two Aberdeens are the same size with the string tension of the C to C being very slightly more firm. Both Aberdeen Meadows Harps come with full Rees sharping levers. The Aberdeen also has a 3.5 (8.9cm) inch shoulder to allow comfortable play with a full range of motion. Depending upon wood selection this five octave harp weighs 25 to 27 pounds (11.4 to 12.5kg) and stands 55 inches (140cm) tall. Should you wish to add ornamentation to your harp, we have both our exceptional standard ornamentation or, if you a ready for something truly extraordinary, our custom ornamentation. If you would like your harp to be made out of luscious flamed maple, we can do that too! Like all Rees Concert Line Harps the Aberdeen comes with a tuning wrench, care sheet and a lifetime warranty.

Prior to ordering any Rees harp please carefully read our Terms and Conditions and our Ordering FAQ  page.

Same Harp Two Ranges - C to C or A to A

Our original Aberdeen Meadows harp range was C to C but it is no surprise that many Celtic harpers yearn for that low A string. They, after all, live in a musical environment where guitars are tuned in D-A-D-G-A-D and there is a long tradition of music favoring those keys. Additionally, many Irish harpers drive break-neck musical ornamentation and require a harp with both light tension and great sensitivity. Achieving this on a harp with as big a voice and wide a dynamic range as a Rees Aberdeen Meadows took a bit of doing but harper Máire Ní Chathasaigh asked us to give it a go so we did. The resulting Rees A to A Aberdeen Meadows Concert Line Harp has a voice big enough for ceili dances with all the richness and color you could want for a ballad. When you hear it you will know, this harp was made to make alive both the verve and the sorrow of the Irish.

Aberdeen Meadows Audio Clips - C to C and A to A

Tip: Many people request a clip of the harp being played. We are happy to provide one but with this basic understanding:  any harp will only sound as good as the speakers and the bass and treble pre-sets of your computer. In other words, in many ways our harp will sound like your computer. Additionally, you have no way to compare one harp to another via Mp3 because you have no control over the recording conditions and variables.
