Rees Mariposa Harp (34 strings)
The Rees Mariposa Concert Line Harp has the light weight and responsiveness prized by so many modern harpers. Luckily, the Mariposa does this without sacrificing any of the big voice and comprehensive dynamic range for which Rees harps are known. Also, as with the Rees Aberdeen Meadows Harp, you can chose to order your Mariposa harp in one of two ranges, A to C or F to A. Both versions are the same size and both have a string feel that is light but comfortably solid. The Mariposa Harp comes with full Rees sharping levers and a narrow 3.5 inch (8.89 cm) shoulder that allows for complete freedom of movement. The Mariposa is 50 inches (127 cm) tall at the point and, depending upon the wood selected, weighs between 17 and 20 pounds (7.71 to 9.07 kg). Like all Rees Concert Line Harps, the Mariposa includes a lifetime warranty.
The base price on a Mariposa is $4600 US. We require 25% of your initial order at the time the order is placed. Prior to ordering any Rees harp please carefully read our Terms and Conditions and our Ordering FAQ page. If you are ready to order now just head on in to our Rees Marketplace.
Same Harp in Two Ranges - A to C or F to A
While going down to the low C is thought of as a standard in 34-string harps, it is no surprise that many harpers yearn for that low A string. Both Celtic music and much of the harp therapy repertoire benefits from having those two additional base strings. The Rees Mariposa F to A walks the fine line between light tension and great sensitivity. This harp has a captivating concert voice while still retaining the intimacy of a dynamic range appropriate to softer pieces or harp therapy work. Be it the A to C or F to A version, the Mariposa harp is a truly made to reflect the emotions of the player.
Rees Mariposa Harp Audio Clips
Many people request a clip of the harp being played. We are happy to provide one but with this basic understanding: any harp will only sound as good as the speakers and the bass and treble pre-sets of your computer. In other words, in many ways our harp will sound like your computer. Additionally, you have no way to compare one harp to another via Mp3 because you have no control over the recording conditions and variables. If you are listening on iTunes, on a computer, you can improve the quality of what you hear in the iTunes Application by going to Window then to Equalizer and, within the equalizer, selecting Acoustic. You might want to boost the Preamp a bit too. If you do this before you play the clip below you may have a result which is a bit closer to how the harp really sounds.
Darlene Walton began her harp life on a Rees and was our showroom manager for many years. Now she has retired but keeps herself more than busy teaching beginning harpers from around the world through her website. We also carry Darlene's wonderful books of music in our Rees Marketplace.
Rees Sharping Levers
Rees Sharping Levers provide solid, true-to-tone sharping. The levers have long handles and "jewels" on the C and F strings acting as both tactile and visual aids to allow for rapid and accurate levering. Read here for more on levers.
Make Your Mariposa Harp Your Own by Selecting Optional Ornamentation
Rees Harps Inc. has long been known for the ornamentation customers can have added to their harps. We have a generous selection of standard ornamentation, including the cherry blossom soundboard shown above, and many customers create their own uniquely chosen combinations to turn our standard offerings into something which is distinctive. Entirely custom ornamentation is also available. While harps with fully custom ornamentation take quite a bit longer for us to complete they are as extraordinary as they are individual.
